Self-defense and confidence building workshops.

Community programs are important settings for supporting the development and wellness of young people. Our core workshops are designed to give students a taste of their own strength, confidence and inner power.

We incorporate elements of movement and physical activity through the use of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu inspired self defense. We also implement storytelling, role-play and discussion activities that engage students in thinking about and discuss topics such as safety, communication and friendship skills.

We believe that combining social/emotional learning (SEL) with physical literacy skills enhances students physical wellbeing while simultaneously developing their social and emotional competency, mental health and sense of safety in the world.

By introducing our interactive workshops within your community, you not only help equip young people with practical self-defense techniques and conflict resolution skills but you help to boost their confidence, their sense of belonging in the world and also address many of the common challenges faced by young people today:

  • Self regulation and healthy coping mechanisms

  • Anti-bullying strategies

  • Social connections and healthy relationships with self and others

  • Resilience to stress and conflict resolution skills

  • Anxiety and healthy risk taking

  • Practical safety skills

  • Relational and self confidence

What People Are Saying

“Jess ran an engaging, age appropriate and fun session for our Brownies! We loved watching their confidence grow throughout the workshop as they tried news skills. It took them out of their comfort zone and gave them the opportunity to try something new. Thank you Arise for sharing your passion of female empowerment with us!!”

— Danika, Brownie Leader

“Arise came to lead an evening of self-defense and empowerment training for our Pathfinders (12-15 year old girls), and they were totally engaged and interested and captivated the whole time! We highly recommend them for groups of girls!”

— Carla, Pathfinder Leader

“I appreciate you finding a way to adapt to your program online so that we could still benefit from your knowledge!! I was impressed with how engaged the girls were and thought the session went really well. Within minutes after our meeting I had 1 mom send me an email telling me she thought it was a great session and that it's never too early to learn about consent & one's own "personal bubble".
